2022 marks the 25 year anniversary of Motives for Jazz, a milestone we'll celebrate in style. Sunday April 3rd, we'll present a showcase festival with 7 acts which are more than worthy of a breakthrough.
A quick flashback: September 1997 gave birth to the Limburgs overlegplatform jazz [Limburgish consultation platform for jazz]. The network consisted of 10 partners: PCM Casino Beringen, the cultural centers of Genk, Bilzen, Heusden-Zolder, Maasmechelen & Peer, Kunstencentrum België [Hasselt], Muziekodroom [Hasselt] and jazz clubs The Mood [Hasselt] & Maazz/Sjruur Live [Maaseik]. A short while after, the cultural centers of Hasselt, Neerpelt & Sint-Truiden joined the network, which was then renamed Motives for Jazz. Today 25 years have passed and vzw Motives for Jazz [a non-profit organization] has grown into an autonomous organization which promotes jazz in all its varieties and develops productions in Belgian and Dutch Limburg. The numerous Limburgish jazz talents, active in various [inter]national projects, are always the starting point.
The location for the showcase festival is the beautiful industrial setting of MUZE & ZLDR Luchtfabriek in Heusden-Zolder. A maximum of 200 tickets will be available & covid measures are consultable via our website or Facebook-page.
TRIOLOGY 'PAR COEUR'
A sparkling tribute to American composer and alto saxophonist Charlie 'Bird' Parker. Parkers genius virtuosity and harmonious complexity appeal to imagination. Carlo Nardozza [trumpet], Christophe Devisscher [double bass] & Tim Finoulst [guitar] engage in wonderful interpretations and arrangements. The concert is supported by the drawings made by drummer Luc Vanden Bosch, inspired by Parker's musical works.

LIEVEN CAMBRÉ QUARTET
Alto saxophonist and composer Lieven Cambré has been an active member of the Belgian jazz scene for a number of years and wrote music for QLC, All-In Quartet, Mamutrio & Muze Jazz Orchestra. His very own Lieven Cambré Quartet blows new life into some of his 'forgotten' works. Bram Weijters [piano], Jasper De Roeck [double bass] & Jesse Dockx [drums] join Lieven on the group's first album, scheduled to release in late 2022. Jesse Dockx currently resides in New York, so he will be replaced by the equally virtuoso Lieven Venken for this showcase.

AMBER HADDAD QUINTET
The Amber Haddad Quintet creates a trip through oriental and Mediterranean spheres. In addition to her own songs, Amber sings songs by Fayruz and other Arabian singers. With passion and intimacy, Amber Haddad [who has Lebanese roots] takes us along a narrative voyage about cultures and emotions, everyday stories and elevated moments. In short, Ambed Haddad Quintet provides worldly jazz at the intersection of the West and the Orient.
