Motives For Jazz wil de Limburgse jazzscene helpen vormen en spreiden door nieuwe initiatieven op te starten, projecten te ondersteunen en cultuurbruggen te bouwen naar Vlaanderen, Brussel, Euregio Maas-Rijn en Europa. Het nieuwe jaarlijkse, nomadische Motives Festival toont nieuwe, boeiende jazzprojecten aan een internationaal publiek in Limburgs toperfgoed. Op zondag 7 december 2025 vindt in MUZE in Heusden-Zolder het Motives Festival plaats. Meteen wordt de toon gezet voor een jaarlijks terugkerend festival met internationale uitstraling en vol Limburgse accenten in de programmatie. Naast een enthousiast jazzpubliek worden ook concertorganisatoren en promotoren uitgenodigd in een professioneel kader. EN Motives For Jazz wants to help shape and spread the Limburg jazz scene by starting new initiatives, supporting projects and building cultural bridges to Flanders, Brussels, Euregio Maas-Rijn and Europe. The new annual, nomadic Motives Festival showcases new, fascinating jazz projects to an international audience in Limburg's top heritage. On December 7, 2025, the Motives Festival will take place at MUZE in Heusden-Zolder. The tone is immediately set for an annual festival with international appeal and full of Limburg accents in the programming. Besides an enthusiastic jazz audience, concert organizers and promoters are also invited in a professional setting. |

Indiejazz duo Blue Sands bewijst dat stem en bas een spannende en intieme combinatie kan zijn. Van Grunge tot klassieke jazz en videogame scores: bassist Reindert Kragt en zangeres Esther Van Hees laten zich erdoor inspireren, ongeacht het genre. Dat hoor je in hun muziek, waarvan de karakteristieke sound vaak wordt omschreven als filmisch, dromerig en eigenzinnig. Gewapend met een arsenaal aan effectpedalen creëert Blue Sands een eigen universum waarin naast het publiek ook andere muzikanten zeer welkom zijn. In januari 2025 presenteerde het duo zijn nieuwe album For You in het Bimhuis te Amsterdam. De plaat kreeg meteen 4 sterren in De Volkskrant. Met atmosferische soundscapes en snijdende melodieën blaast Yskan een frisse wind door het Belgische jazzlandschap. De combinatie van Anneleen Boehme (LABtrio, Grand Picture Palace), Simon Raman (Steiger) en Geert Hendrickx (Zandland) is voor velen niet vreemd. Voeg daar nog Lennert Baerts (Profound Observer) aan toe, en je weet dat de luisteraars iets speciaals te wachten staat. De composities van Yskan hebben een sterk filmisch karakter waar bochtige melodieën hun weg doorheen snijden en zijn een waar genoegen om naar te luisteren dankzij het constante maar prachtige gevecht tussen de contrasten. Ze speelden hun eerste concert op Jazz Middelheim in 2019. Na de concertreeks rond hun eerste album besloot Yskan om met saxofonist Lennert Baerts samen te werken aan nieuwe muziek voor een tweede album. De Brusselse gitarist Benjamin Sauzereau, een van de meest gerespecteerde muzikanten van onze scene, is actief over het volledige spectrum, van elegante jazz tot pittige improvisatie. Hij schreef een groot aantal composities die hij voorstelt onder de noemer ‘REMORQUE’. Een beetje zoals John Zorn met zijn Masada-composities, een vernuftige exploratie van compositie, improvisatie en arrangement. De korte, levendige stukken zijn nu eens lyrisch en bedachtzaam, dan weer frivool en speels. Snaren krijgen het voor het zeggen in deze buitengewone sound, waarin veel plaats is voor verrassingen en poëzie. Een bekend gezicht is de alomtegenwoordige Vitja Pauwels (Naima Joris, Early Life Forms,...). Tim Finoulst is een Belgische gitarist en componist die bekend staat om zijn veelzijdige benadering van jazz en andere muziekgenres, of het nu gaat om eigen projecten of die van anderen (zoals het Wrapped in Rhythm-project van Tutu Puoane). Sinds 2015 leidt hij zijn eigen trio met Martijn Vanbuel op bas en Daniel Jonkers op drums. Deze muzikanten verdienden alle drie hun strepen al in de Belgische en internationale jazz, in tal van bands en bezettingen, maar vonden in dit trio ruimte voor hun eigen muzikale expressie. Ze halen hun inspiratie niet alleen uit jazz, maar ook blues, folk en wereldmuziek. Elk stuk muziek wordt zo een reis, een kortverhaal in een groter raamwerk. In 2025 neemt het trio zijn derde album op. All three of these musicians already earned their stripes in Belgian and international jazz, in numerous bands and line-ups, but found in this trio space for their own musical expression. In 2008 stelde trompettist Sam Vloemans een eerste versie van Bord nu Nord voor, geïnspireerd door een verblijf in Parijs. Samen met accordeonist Gwen Cresens als spil werd het een sierlijke combinatie van jazz, chanson en filmische invloeden. Nu stelt Vloemans nieuw materiaal én een kersverse bezetting voor, met Cresens, pianist Dominique Vantomme en bassiste Lara Rosseel. Zij nodigde Vloemans enkele jaren geleden nog uit voor een tournee met haar gelauwerde kwintet. Samen spelen ze zwierige composities met meeslepende melodieën en improvisaties die je meenemen naar de Lichtstad. Vloemans’ brede achtergrond en de verschillende invalshoeken van de groepsleden monden uit in een sfeervolle mix van jazz, chanson, tango, klezmer en klassiek.
